Naps

For the last six days I have started focusing on getting Grey's nap schedule down. He was just kind of napping willy-nilly for the last while, and would just fall asleep for short little naps in my arms or on the couch or in his swing. He would also only nap for 10 or 15 minutes at a time. I started keeping a sleep log of when he would get tired and fall asleep so that I could help him and be able to anticipate when he would be getting tired so that I could get him to calm down, relax, and fall asleep in his room before it got to the point of him getting cranky and overtired (which was happening at almost every naptime lately). It has been a lot of work so far trying to get to know him and his natural schedule, keep track of it all, and try to find a pattern in it. But I can tell that all my hard work is really starting to make a difference and he really responds to having a routine. I started reading "The Baby Sleep Book" by Dr. Seares, and it has been a lifesaver. Now every time Grey starts showing signs of being tired, we go into his room and start the transition of going from being awake to asleep. I have already learned so much about Grey and about our relationship, just by focusing more on him and trying to be in tune with his signs and needs. This has probably been one of the best experiences for me. Instead of the TV constantly being on the whole day, we spend a lot more time in his room being quiet and spending actual time together. Instead of me always looking at the computer or bustling around the house, I spend most of my time nursing and rocking my baby boy and reading while he sleeps. I know things will eventually get easier and I won't need to spend as much time holding him and helping him sleep, but I am really enjoying the process right now.

At 2 months old, Grey:

smiles and giggles all the time. Kyle and I have quite the repertoire of funny faces and voices to show for it.
weighs about 13 lbs!
still loves to be held all.the.time. But we don't mind very much.
likes to be propped up so he can sit up.
has gotten dark brown hair again on the top of his head.
L.O.V.E.s ceiling fans.
is a pretty good traveler, especially on airplanes.
still nurses about every 2 hours in the daytime, but now has a nice stretch of about 6-7 hours of sleep when he goes to bed at night.
has started a new thing of screaming every time we're in the car and we hit a red light. He sleeps peacefully while the car is moving, but the second we stop, the screaming starts until we start going again. Funny and not-so-funny at the same time . . .
is still the sweetest little boy and has parents that are crazy about him.

2011 in Review

2011 has been a big and wonderful year for us. I thought it would be fun to go through everything that happened:

JANUARY

Kyle and I drove down to Arizona so that he could interview for the Occupational Therapy Masters program at A.T. Still University. A couple weeks later we found out that he was accepted, and we began our plans to move down to Mesa in August!

FEBRUARY

We celebrated a fun Valentine's Day and helped plan our Stake Valentine's dance.

MARCH

On March 2nd, we found out that I was pregnant!

APRIL-MAY

In April and May we celebrated Kyle's 25th birthday and kept plugging along with my pregnancy.

JUNE

In June, we took a trip to Bear Lake together and found out that our little baby was a boy!

JULY

We had my sister Robin take some family pictures of us, we started packing up our house in Logan, had a yard sale and sold a bunch of our belongings, and celebrated my 23rd birthday!

AUGUST

In August we made our big move down to Arizona and Kyle started school at A.T. Still.

SEPTEMBER

We went to our first Arizona Diamondbacks game and had the time of our lives!

OCTOBER

In October we made a quilt for our little boy and counted down the days until we could meet him. On Halloween, we welcomed our sweet little baby Grey!!!

NOVEMBER

We brought our best baby boy home in November and enjoyed having family stay with us.

DECEMBER

We took Grey on his first airplane ride and spent two weeks with our families in Utah for Christmas. We also had Grey's baby blessing and it was such a special day.

2011 brought along many changes and surprises, but we are so thankful for all of them and can't believe what a blessed year we have had!

Grey @ 1 Month

I can't believe Grey is already a month old! It has gone by so fast, but I also can't remember him not being here. He is growing so well and is the happiest and sweetest baby. We have so much fun with him! Here are a few things about Grey at 1 month old:

He now weighs around 10 lbs and is about 22 inches long.
He smiles pretty frequently and it's usually when we are playing around with him. I feel like we have our own little inside jokes! I can tell already that he has a good sense of humor.
He rarely cries, and when he does, it's not for very long. Just long enough to let us know that something is bothering him.
He likes to lay on his stomach and has a really strong neck.
He LOVES his car seat and will sleep in there for hours.
He is getting lots of rolls on his arms and legs and his tummy is getting super chunky.
He loves to nurse. He eats pretty consistently every 2 to 2 1/2 hours, but sometimes goes for 4 hours without eating at night.
He likes baths.
His hair has started falling out on the top of his head, but it is still super long in the back. It looks hilarious and weird.
He loves to be held and snuggled really close.
His hair is still dark brown and his eyes are still the prettiest navy blue/grey color.
Nicknames that we call him: Mr. G, Goose, Mister, Baby, Grey Bay, and Baby Bear.

We love him so much and are so glad that he came to our family!

Holiday Stuff

We had a great Thanksgiving! We went shopping the day after and then came home and had our "Night After Thanksgiving" move night. We watched "Super 8."

Baby Grey is doing so well and is growing and growing. My mom just left this morning after spending 9 days with us. It was so great to have her here and she helped us out so much! We will miss her!

Baby Boy is here!
Douglas Grey Fairchild was born on October 31 at 1:03 pm via C-section.
He was 8 lbs 1 oz and 19.5 inches long.
We took him home from the hospital 3 days later and have loved having him here in our home for the last week.
Grey is the sweetest boy in the world and is such a good, good baby. We love him so much and are so glad he is finally here!!!

36 week picture taken today, but I'm most likely closer to about 38-39 weeks because of how big the baby is measuring. We'll find out on Friday when we can expect him to come!

Here are some pictures of the quilt that I made for the baby! This was the first quilt that I have ever made, and I think it turned out pretty well! I had to ask for a lot of over-the-phone help and advice (thanks Mom), and Kyle helped me out so much when my pregnant-brain couldn't do the figuring. It is definitely not perfect and has a few mistakes, but Kyle and I love it so much and loved working on something for the baby together.

Now just a few more weeks and we'll get to wrap him up in it!

Diamondbacks Game

On Friday night we went to our first Arizona Diamondbacks game! We had so much fun and can't wait to keep going to more games over the next couple of years.
Before the game we ate at Alice Cooperstown, a really cool restaurant right by the stadium opened by Alice Cooper who lives in Phoenix and is a huge Diamondbacks fan. We had to wait for almost an hour to get in, but it was worth the wait! Kyle got a burger and I got delicious macaroni and cheese with crumbled potato chips on top.

This is after the game had already started - that's why it's deserted! And for some reason it wouldn't let me fix Kyle's flashy eyes in this picture . . . I guess it's a little Alice Cooperish?

We had really cheap seats but they ended up being great and we could see really well. This actually was a western division championship game and it was so fun to see the Diamondbacks win and have everybody go crazy!

We would love to go to a playoffs game this next month, but with the way I was giving myself contractions from cheering and clapping, we'll probably wait until the baby's here to go to another game. :)

And me at 34 weeks, getting bigger and bigger and bigger.

The Rest of the House

Bedroom: pretty simple with the decorating - I didn't want much in there. I made that canvas painting with a line from a poem by E.E. Cummings.

And that's all! It feels good to have it done and now I can focus on trying to take it a little easier before the baby comes.

Baby Nursery

The baby's nursery is finally done! Kyle and I both love it and we both just go sit in there all the time. It's Kyle's favorite place to study because he says it's so "peaceful." We love it!

Accidentally skipped 29 weeks - whoops!

I am 30 weeks now and the baby boy is doing great. We love him so much and are getting so excited to meet him! I am currently craving peaches and almonds like crazy and am starting to get kind of achy in my back and joints.

Today was Kyle's official first day of grad school at ATSU! He really likes it and already has a few friends. And I have a few projects in the works to keep me busy while he's gone. Other than the extreme heat we've had the last couple weeks here, we are really enjoying our new life in Mesa! We love our new ward, having Aunt Heidi and cousins close by, and have had fun exploring the city and doing fun things together the last few weeks.

Bear Lake at 21 Weeks

Kyle and I decided to take a quick trip to Bear Lake on Saturday. It was a beautiful drive, but it was crazy to see all of the major flooding that has been happening in Cache Valley. All the rivers were flooded on the way there, and most of the trees in the canyon along the banks of the rivers were half-covered with water. Most of the campgrounds are shut down because they are all flooded. There was sooo much water and it was gushing sooo fast - white water rapids were all around us and some of the waves (in the middle of the river) were higher than the road. It was crazy! When we got to Bear Lake we got lunch and some raspberry shakes and spent a little while relaxing on the beach, which was pretty much nonexistent because the water in the lake was so high. So we sat in chairs on the rocks because the real beach was covered with about 2 feet of water!

It was a fun day to relax and spend time together. We liked seeing the TONS of sailboats out on the water and both succeeded in getting sunburned on only the right halves of our bodies.

Kyle and I found out yesterday that we are having a baby BOY! We are so excited, even though it surprised mostly everyone! He is healthy and strong and I don't think we could be any happier.

Getting Bigger . . .

Getting bigger and bigger . . . I have only gained about 6 pounds though so I think most of it is just me sticking my stomach out more than usual because it's comfortable. I felt the baby move for the first time about 3 weeks ago, and have started feeling it move about every other day now. I am hungry all the time, feeling great, and can't wait to find out what it is next week!

Yesterday was Kyle's 25th birthday. We both had the morning off of work so we enjoyed sleeping in, having a nice breakfast, and opening presents.

Kyle's big present was a pair of new Nike shoes - chipped in for by my parents and sister!

Kyle wanted an angel food cake for his birthday, so I decided to try my hand at making one from scratch. Even though I didn't have the right pan, it turned out great!

It was fun and I think Kyle had a good day. I love him so much!

11 Weeks

Here I am. I know that in the grand scheme of things I am not big at all, but I feel huge for only being 11 weeks along! Things are going great and I'm slowly starting to get my energy back.

On Friday we found out that Kyle has been accepted to A. T. Still University's Occupational Therapy Graduate Program!!! Since ATSU was our #1 prospective school, we are going to accept this one even though we haven't heard from the other 5 schools he applied to yet. We are so excited and happy about it, and we feel really blessed. We are looking forward to moving down to Mesa, AZ in the fall and being in the {very} warm weather!

We went out to eat at Hamilton's in Logan to celebrate after we got the good news!

For New Year's Eve this year, we had a little party at our house with a couple of our friends. We had a fancy dinner, played games, watched movies, and ate more food. It was really fun!

On New Year's Day, we went to breakfast and talked about all the things we'd done in 2010. Here are some highlights:

We both finished up our last semester of school and graduated with Bachelor's Degrees from USU
We both got full-time jobs
We celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary
Kyle volunteered with a few Physical and Occupational Therapists over the summer
Kyle studied for, took, and dominated the GRE
We moved into a bigger {but older} apartment that we love
We applied Kyle for 6 Occupational Therapy graduate programs across the country
Went to New York TWICE

2010 was a big year, but we're thinking that 2011 will probably be even bigger. We're excited for all the new things coming our way!

This Old House

On Tuesday morning I got out of bed and slipped on wet carpet. The carpet was soaked in the corner of our bedroom! I called our landlord later that day and they sent a plumber over as soon as they could. Since I was at work all day, I wasn't sure what the plumber was doing, but got home to see our bedroom like this:

I guess the water was coming in from underground (???) and he left a message saying that we needed to let the carpet air out for a few days and then he would be back. We're not sure what he's going to do when he comes back, but we do know that he left a huge hole in our wall when he was schlumping our bed all over the place.

So, we moved one of our mattresses out to the living room and put it on top of the futon. We have been sleeping there the last couple nights and it has actually been really fun and comfortable! I love it and I think it is hilarious. It's so funny to walk in and see a huge bed sitting there. I like eating breakfast in bed every morning and watching TV til we fall asleep - it reminds us of our old apartment! Haha!

But, we are so over having to fix all the ghetto things in this 100-year-old house. Especially since we'll only be here for 10 more months! At least we have landlords who do it all for us.

Pumpkins

Last weekend Kyle and I carved pumpkins! I haven't carved a pumpkin in about 4 years, and I have to say, this is probably the best pumpkin I have ever done. I'm not very good at it! Needless to say, the little face was enough for me and I happily spent the rest of the time cleaning out the pumpkins and roasting the seeds while Kyle slaved away for HOURS on his. He is very proud of it.

After our old laptop broke a couple months ago, we decided to get a new computer! We were wanting to get a desktop at first, but after doing some research we decided that getting a new laptop was better for us. We got it last night and we love it! It is an HP Pavilion Notebook.

I also made this wall hanging a couple days ago for Valentine's Day. I think it is kind of cute.

The Best NYC Trip EVER!

Kyle and I were able to go to NYC for the last 7 days to visit our peeps in Staten Island.

We both decided that it was definitely the best trip ever! We had so much fun being in the city, hanging out with Cat and Joseph, and playing with our favorite babies!

Kyle's parents gave us a microwave for Christmas, but we didn't have anywhere in our house to put it. So we went to DI last night and found a cute nightstand and bought some paint. It was fun to do together and we are pretty pleased with how it turned out!

Here it is almost finished. We still had a little bit of touching up to do.

Once it was dry we moved it into the kitchen and we think it looks great!

Christmas Stockings

I made stockings for Kyle and me for Christmas. After a lot of horribleness, I finally got them done! I made Kyle's first and, needless to say, mine turned out a lot better than his because I had already gotten all the trial and error out of the way. They turned out smaller than I wanted though. Probably only half the stuff we got for each other's stockings is actually going to fit in there!

Pumpkin Walk

We went to the annual North Logan Pumpkin Walk this weekend. Some of the scenes made out of pumpkins were kind of cool.

Kyle worked putting up the USU Bookstore booth before our football game on Saturday, and we got free food at the game because of it! We could have gotten anything and as much as we wanted, but we settled for two hamburgers and a drink (that came to $16 though!). It was fun! AND we actually won the game!

First Day of Fall

To start off the first day of fall, I made soup for the first time in my life! I made Potato Bacon soup, and it was probably the best soup I have ever had! It was so good.

Then Kyle and I went longboarding on campus. The weather was nice, but it was kind of hard because there were too many people around.

Then we came home and watched "Elizabethtown" and had hot chocolate and my second new recipe, Pumpkin Creme Pies.

It was a perfect fall day!

Last night I made the best cookies ever and I wanted to share the recipe because they were the best cookies I have ever had! I made the recipe up myself.

Pumpkin Sugar Cookies

1 package of sugar cookie mix (I know, I know. . . )
1 stick of butter
1/4 cup applesauce
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon

Last night Robin and I went to eat at the Happy Sumo at the Gateway. I was pretty nervous, but I was actually pleasantly surprised. I could barely use the chopsticks though. Robin took all the pictures cause my camera ran out of batteries after the first one. We ordered Dragon Scales (tempura-fried spicy tuna and CAVIAR) and the Diva Roll (eel with cream cheese, avocado, and rice wrapped in seaweed sprinkled with macadamia nuts).

I made this jumper for myself on Saturday. It turned out pretty okay, considering I haven't sewed a clothing item from scratch in a really long time. It's hard to tell from the picture, but the fabric is black and white houndstooth. I got it for $1.00 a yard at Walmart! Cat is going to make a dress out of the leftover fabric, so we got two dresses for $1.67!
This picture is pretty dark, but my camera died when I tried to take another one, so this will have to do.
